NCERT Class X Chapter 14: Probability Example 12

NCERT Class X Chapter 14: Probability Example 12 Question: A carton consists of 100 shirts of which 88 are good, 8 have minor defects and 4 have major defects. Jimmy, a trader, will only accept the shirts which are good, but Sujatha, another trader, will only reject the shirts which have major defects. One shirt is drawn at random from the carton. What is the probability that (i) it is acceptable to Jimmy? (ii) it is acceptable to Sujatha? Given: Total number of shirts = 100 Number of good shirts = 88 Number of shirts with minor defects = 8 Number of shirts with major defects = 4 To Find: (i) Probability that the shirt is acceptable to Jimmy (ii) Probability that the shirt is acceptable to Sujatha Formula: Probability = Number of favorable outcomes Total number of outcomes Solution: (i) Probability that the shirt is acceptable to Jimmy: Number of shirts acceptable to Jimmy = Number of good shirts  ⇒ Number of shirts acceptable to Jimmy = 88 ...

NCERT Class X Chapter 5: Arithmetic Progression Example 12

NCERT Class X Chapter 5: Arithmetic Progression Example 12 Question: If the sum of the first 14 terms of an AP is 1050 and its first term is 10, find the 20th term. Given: Sum of first 14 terms (S 14 ) = 1050 First term (a) = 10 To Find: 20th term (a 20 ) Formula: S n = n 2 [2a + (n - 1)d] a n = a + (n - 1)d Solution: Using the formula for the sum of an AP, we have: 1050 = 14 2 [2(10) + (14 - 1)d] ⇒ 1050 = 7[20 + 13d] ⇒ 150 = 20 + 13d ⇒ 13d = 130 ⇒ d = 10 Now, we find the 20th term using the formula for the nth term of an AP: a 20 = a + (20 - 1)d = 10 + 19(10) = 10 + 190 = 200 Result: The 20th term of the AP is 200.
