NCERT Class X Chapter 5: Arithmetic Progression Exercise 5.1 Question 2 (iii)
Question:
Write first four terms of the AP, when the first term a and the common difference d are given as follows: a = 4,d=–3
Given:
First term (a) = 4
Common difference (d) = –3
To Find:
First four terms of the Arithmetic Progression (AP).
Formula:
The nth term of an AP is given by: an = a + (n – 1)d
Solution:
First term (a1) = a = 4
Second term (a2) = a + d = 4 + (–3) = 1
Third term (a3) = a + 2d = 4 + 2(–3) = 4 – 6 = –2
Fourth term (a4) = a + 3d = 4 + 3(–3) = 4 – 9 = –5
Result:
The first four terms of the AP are 4, 1, –2, –5.
