NCERT Class X Chapter 5: Arithmetic Progression Exercise 5.1 Question 3 (iii)
Question:
For the following APs, write the first term and the common difference: 1/3, 5/3 , 9/3 , 13/3, ...
Given:
Arithmetic Progression (AP): 1/3, 5/3 , 9/3 , 13/3, ...
To Find:
First term (a) and common difference (d)
Formula:
In an AP, the common difference (d) is given by: d = an - an-1, where an is the nth term and an-1 is the (n-1)th term.
Solution:
The first term (a) is the first number in the sequence: a = 13
To find the common difference (d), we subtract any term from the next term. Let's use the first two terms:
d = a2 - a1 = 53 - 13 = 43
Result:
First term (a) = 13, Common difference (d) = 43
