NCERT Class X Chapter 5: Arithmetic Progression Exercise 5.1 Question 2 (iv)
Question:
Write first four terms of the AP, when the first term a and the common difference d are given as follows: a=–1, d=1/2.
Given:
First term (a) = –1
Common difference (d) = 12
To Find:
First four terms of the AP
Formula:
nth term of an AP = a + (n-1)d
Solution:
First term (a1) = a = –1
Second term (a2) = a + d = –1 + 12 = -11 + 12 = -2+12 = -12 = -12
Third term (a3) = a + 2d = –1 + 2(12) = –1 + 1 = 0
Fourth term (a4) = a + 3d = –1 + 3(12) = –1 + 32 = –1 + 1.5 = 0.5 = 12
Result:
The first four terms of the AP are –1, –12, 0, 12
